As digitisation creates new opportunities, it inadvertently increases enterprises’ and individuals’ exposure to cyber risks. The risk is heightened during crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic where we witnessed an accelerated adoption of information technology,
Cybersecurity thus becomes a critical enabler to Singapore’s digital economy. Cybersecurity incidents often result in financial losses, tarnish business reputations and affect customers’ trust. They erode business investments and people’s confidence in the digital economy and sabotage progress. Hence, there is a strong need to build confidence in enterprises to enable them to pursue digital opportunities.
Cybersecurity standards were developed for industry adoption and designed to support the cybersecurity needs of a wide range of enterprises. The standards take on a guided approach to help enterprises in their journey towards the implementation of cybersecurity in the organisation.
Enterprises differ in terms of the nature business, size (which may be measured by parameters such as capital turnover or employment size) and the extent of digitalisation in their business. These have a corresponding impact on their cybersecurity risk profile. As such, the CSA Cybersecurity Certification takes on a tiered approach to address differing business profiles and needs with two certification marks - Cyber Essentials mark and the Cyber Trust mark.
Collectively, the Cyber Essentials mark and Cyber Trust mark provide a cybersecurity risk management approach for enterprises.
Cyber Essentials (2025) and Cyber Trust (2025)
The Cyber Essentials (2025) and Cyber Trust (2025) versions were launched on 15 April 2025. From the launch date until 6 February 2026, an organisation may apply for certification under both 2022 and 2025 versions. After 6 February 2026, the application will only be under the 2025 version.
